Privacy Policy

The short version

Stubey has no accounts of its own, does not track you, and has nothing to sell about you. Your lessons, transcripts, notes, flashcards and quizzes live on your iPhone, and in your own iCloud account if you sync them — somewhere we cannot reach. You can export the lot to an archive file whenever you like. The only thing that ever reaches us is the text of a transcript, and only if you choose the cloud study engine yourself.

What stays on your device

Everything you create in Stubey is stored locally on your iPhone:

• Lessons, with their titles, creators and thumbnails
• Full transcripts of every video, recording or pasted text
• Your notes, including everything you write in the note editor
• Flashcards, quizzes and every answer you have given
• Study plans, daily targets, streaks and your whole study history
• Collections, and every setting you choose

Audio and video files you import are read where they already are and are never copied out of where you keep them. Deleting the app deletes the local copy. If you sync, the copy in your iCloud account is removed from iOS Settings, in the same place as any other app’s iCloud data. There is no copy on our side to ask us to delete, because we never had one.

iCloud sync

You can use your own iCloud account to keep your library on every iPhone signed in to the same Apple Account. Your lessons, transcripts, notes, flashcards, quizzes, plans and history are then stored in your iCloud private database as well as on the device.

That data sits in your Apple Account, not ours. We cannot see it, cannot reach it, and have no way to retrieve it for you. It is covered by Apple’s iCloud terms and privacy policy, and it counts against your iCloud storage.

This uses the Apple Account you already have. There is still no Stubey account.

Exporting your data

You can export everything Stubey holds to a single archive file at any time — lessons, transcripts, notes, flashcards, quizzes, study plans and history.

The archive is written wherever you choose to save it and is yours to keep, move or open elsewhere. It never passes through us.

On-device AI and transcription

If a video has no captions, Stubey can transcribe an audio or video file you choose. That transcription runs on your iPhone using Apple’s speech recognition. The file is not uploaded.

With the on-device study engine, the brief, the key takeaways, the flashcards and the quiz are generated by Apple Intelligence on your iPhone. Nothing is sent anywhere, and it works with no network connection at all. This is the default.

The cloud study engine

In Settings you can switch the AI study engine from on-device to cloud. With the cloud engine, the text of the lesson transcript is sent to Stubey to be processed, and the generated study pack comes back. Your notes, your answers, your plans and your history are never part of that.

Transcripts sent this way are used only to produce your study pack. They are not used to train models, not sold, not shared, and not attached to an identity — there is no account to attach them to.

The cloud engine is not live yet. Until it is, every study pack is generated on your device.

YouTube links

When you paste a link, Stubey requests the video’s public page to read its title, creator, thumbnail and captions. That request goes to YouTube and is subject to Google’s own privacy policy. It does not pass through us: we do not receive it and keep no record of what you import.

Purchases

Stubey Pro is sold through Apple. Payment is handled entirely by Apple and we never see your payment details.

Subscription status is managed with RevenueCat, which records purchase history so the app knows whether Pro is active. It is not linked to your identity and is used only to make the app work. This is the only category of data Stubey collects, as declared in the app’s privacy manifest on the App Store.

What Stubey does not do

• No account, no sign-up, no email address asked for
• No tracking, no advertising, no advertising identifiers
• No analytics SDK watching what you tap
• Nothing sold or shared with anyone
• No access to your location, contacts or photo library

Permissions

Stubey asks for two permissions, both optional and both refusable without losing the rest of the app:

• Speech recognition, only to transcribe audio and video files you choose, on this device
• Notifications, only to send the study reminder at the time you set yourself

Children

Stubey is made for a general audience and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included. There is no account, no profile and no message sent to us unless you write to us yourself.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it, and anything material is called out in the app’s release notes on the App Store.
